WORK

TV

Kelly Ripa joined the popular ABC Television Network daytime drama, All My Children, in the role of Hayley Vaughan, in November 1990. In May 2000, Hayley finally married her long-time love, Mateo Santos, in a beautiful ceremony that was not without surprises. The only thing that stands in the couple's way is the destructive path of Hayley's mother Arlene.

Kelly, who sees a little bit of herself in Hayley, had been attending Camden Community College in New Jersey and had performed in local theater productions, including H.M.S. Pinafore, The Wizard of Oz and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, before coming to the show.

Her entry into acting came suddenly. After performing in her senior high school play, The Ugly Duckling, she was encouraged to pursue acting. Kelly, who has one sibling, is the first in her family to enter the acting profession. She has studied ballet since age three, plays the piano, and in her words, is "no Barbra Streisand but can carry a tune."

1999 was an exciting year for Ms. Ripa. She, along with castmate Esta TerBlanche and three other ABC Daytime beauties, were featured in Jockey's latest national ad campaign featuring the new line of Jockey bras.

The highlight of the campaign was the unveiling of a 90-foot billboard featuring the ladies in the middle of Manhattan's Time Square. An additional highlight of 1999 for Kelly was being named Best Actress by the New York City Independent Film Festival for her work in the feature film, The Stand-In.

Kelly has become one of All My Children's most popular young actors and has graced the covers of numerous fan magazines. She received the 1996 Soap Opera Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress, and along with her husband, the 1997 Soap Opera Award for Hottest Romance. Nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1993, her nomination in 1999 for Best Supporting Actress was her second.

In February 2001, Kelly joined Regis Philbin as the co-host of the nationally syndicated program Live With Regis and Kelly.

Kelly is married to her All My Children co-star Mark Consuelos (Mateo Santos), and they live in New Jersey with their three-year-old son, Michael Joseph.

The Stand In

Ripa garnered a Best Actress Award at the 1999 New York International Film & Video Festival for her role as 'Jennifer Moore.' Ripa's character, an ambitious aspiring law school student, leaves her boyfriend (Bryan) when his pursuit of an acting career forces her to face the haunting memories of losing her father at an early age.

The film represents Ripa's first co-starring role with her only prior feature credit in Jerry Zaks' "Marvin's Room." In the Nov. 19, 1999 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Ripa commented on her experience working on the shoestring budgeted film. "They really made it look good for the small budget that it was. Nowadays, it takes at least $88 million to make a film and considering this budget, they did a really good job."
